Information Montenvers Mer de glace

Opening of the Mer de Glace gondola lift, the Temple of Nature and the Glaciorium on All Saints' Day from 18/10 to 2/11 included.

A glaciologist will be on hand from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day during this period to read the landscape and provide information on the Mer de Glace.

The Grotte de Glace is currently closed.

Dive into the heart of the glacier

Once at Montenvers, take the gondola to access to the Mer de Glace glacier

Once you've reached Montenvers from Chamonix by cog railway, a new adventure awaits you: a gondola lift will take you to the Mer de Glace glacier.

Please note: Access to the cave is by staircase, with around 170 steps.

PRM access is not possible.


An ephemeral work of art

Every year, the "grottus" sculpt a veritable masterpiece in the ice. The ice walls sparkle, revealing incredible shades of blue. It's an intense sensory experience that will leave a lasting impression

The famous little red train takes passengers from Chamonix (1035 m) to the Montenvers station (1913 m) in 20 minutes. On arrival, the view of the Mer de Glace is breathtaking, bearing witness to the effects of climate change.
